This area has been rated as EXTREMELY HIGH-RISK. You should never attempt to fight General Graardor with items you are not willing to risk losing, and while there, you should expect your death as a possibility at all times. |

Overview
General Graardor is one of the most popular bosses to kill amongst mid-level players due to his difficulty being low and there being very little strategy to killing him. This does not mean he is a pushover though as he can deal a considerable amount of damage in a very short amount of time if you are unlucky so it is always a good idea to keep an eye on your health. Like all God Wars bosses, Graardor has some support in his room who, between them, will attack players with all three sides of the combat triangle. Killing these before killing Graardor will result in them respawning. Players who are successful in defeating General Graardor and his sergeants have a chance to receive a rare piece of Bandos armour or a piece of the Bandos godsword.

General Graardor and his sergeants, like all God Wars Dungeon bosses, have a few drops unique to them which are the main reasons for killing them. Both Graardor and his sergeants drop various pieces of Bandos armour as well as pieces of warpriest of Bandos armour. In addition, General Graardor has a chance of dropping the Bandos hilt and a rare chance of gifting the victor one of the following abilities: Sacrifice, Devotion or Transfigure. |
General Graardor can deal a lot of damage very quickly if you are unlucky so it is a good idea to keep your lifepoints over 4000. Should any of his sergeants be killed before him then they will respawn, meaning players have to kill them again.
For a fee of 250k gp it is possible to have an instanced session of Graardor which removes the possibility of being crashed by other players.
Death
Should you die whilst fighting General Graardor your gravestone will appear inside his stronghold, making retrieving gear dangerous. If death occurs during an instanced fight, the gravestone will appear in the waiting room just outside. 40 killcount is still required to access the waiting room. |
70 in combat skills, Tier 70 weapons (such as an abyssal whip), Tier 70 armour (such as Barrows), at least 52 Summoning and 70 Prayer.
Depending on the size of the team and the presence of a tank, it is possible to use use tier 60 weaponry however it is not advise outside of an instanced session due to crashers. |
80 in combat skills, Tier 80 weapons (such as chaotic weaponry, abyssal wand/orb, staff of light etc), Tier 70 armour (such as Barrows, Ganodermic etc), at least 69 Summoning and 70 Prayer. |
90 in combat skills, Tier 90 weapons (such as Drygores, Seismics etc), Tier 85 armour (such as tetsu, sea singer's etc), at least 88 Summoning, 95 Prayer and 92+ Herblore (for Overloads)
It is possible to solo successfully with Barrows armour and Chaotic weaponry, however the trips will be a lot shorter, kills will be slower and the chances of death are higher. Overload potions and Soul Split are a must if using Barrows armour. |
General Graardor is the leader of Bandos' armies within the God Wars dungeon and one of the last members of his race: the Ourg. When Graardor was young and using the courage given to him by Bandos, he challenged the chief of his tribe to a wrestle to the death as he wanted to be able to go to war depute his age. Graardor was successful in his challenge and as well as being able to go to war, became the new chief of the tribe.
Graardor continued to become stronger and more fearsome and Bandos realised this so he began communicating with him. Under Bandos' guidance Graardor began recruiting goblin tribes to his armies until he had the vast majority under his control and became an almost unstoppable force. This did not last however, Graardor's raids were producing less and less gold, the goblins were becoming disgruntled and Bandos had seemingly abandoned him. Refusing to let his armies desert him, he hired them out to other Gods as much for his own enjoyment of war as for the money.
Bandos never returned to Graardor however Graardor remains loyal to him to this day, protecting his part of the Godsword, waiting for Bandos to call on him again. |

Sergeant Strongstack is the ranged user amongst Graardor's sergeants and, despite his level, has a fairly accurate ranged attack. His low amount of lifepoints and melee weakness make him very easy to deal with. |

Sergeant Steelwill is the magic user amongst Graardor's sergeants and also the most annoying. His magic attacks are surprisingly accurate and the damage does add up over time. Despite his level, even drygore weaponry can sometimes have difficulty landing hits on him however his low lifepoints make him swift to take out. |

Sergeant Grimspike is the melee user amongst Graardor's sergeants and also the easiest to deal with as most players will be using melee or magic. As a result of Grimspike often being within melee range he is often killed at least once before Graardor falls due to abilities such as flurry or earthquake. |
Getting to the Stronghold
Bandos' Stronghold is located in the north-west corner of the God Wars dungeon and requires 70 strength and a hammer (a hammer on your tool belt works) to enter. Within the Stronghold there are a number of Zamorakian followers who will attack you if you are not wearing a Zamorakian item, a shard of Zaros or a piece of Torva, Pernix or Virtus equipment. In the north-east of the Stronghold is the waiting room which requires you to have killed at least 40 Bandosian followers to enter.
Getting Killcount
Most of Bandos' followers in the dungeon have low defence but comparatively high lifepoints, however for players with high level gear it is possible to get the required killcount in under 5 minutes (one dose of overload). One of the better places to get killcount for mid-level players is just inside the Stronghold where a number of Jogres and Cyclops are located. For higher level players one of the best places is just outside the entrance to the Stronghold in the main dungeon. Here there is a high concentration of Bandosian followers that can be dealt with swiftly with the use of area abilities such as flurry. The use of soul split with a bonecrusher and demon horn necklace means lifepoints should remain high.

Monsters in green are followers of Bandos and will count towards your Bandos killcount.
Monsters in red are followers of Zamorak and do not count towards your Bandos killcount, in addition they will attack you if you do not have a Zamorakian item equipped.
*If you attack an Ork it will shout out and cause all nearby Orks to become aggressive towards you regardless of wether you have a Bandos item equipped or not. |
It is worth noting that if you get your killcount outside the Bandos Stronghold it is possible to be attacked by some of Armadyl's aviansie who will wander up into Bandos territory. Also at the northern end of Bandos territory there are a few wandering followers of Zamorak who will also attack you if they're not already occupied with Bandos' forces.
The Waiting Room
After obtaining the 40 killcount you can enter the chamber before General Graardor's room which is the Waiting Room. Upon entering the room 40 killcount will be taken from your total meaning that if you leave, you will have to obtain 40 killcount again. The waiting room is a safe area so players can wait for their teammates and is a good place to do any final preparations before facing Graardor. Clicking on the door to Graardor's chamber gives you four options:
- Enter boss room: You will enter the boss room in your current world, this will not be instanced and any other players may also enter the boss room on that world.
- Start a new session: This option gives you the chance to create an instanced version of the boss room, for which you can set a key code so only people you tell can enter as well. All drops and monster levels are the same as in a normal boss room. You choose the amount of players allowed in, the minimum combat level other players must have to join, and the option to set a private key code (entering 0 will give no key code). You are required to pay 200k gp to begin an instance which lasts for an hour.
- Start a new session (hard mode): Exactly the same as above, except General Graardor will use the abilities he is given in The World Wakes, making him a much tougher opponent. The same fees apply, and the chance of some items appearing are increased, as well as giving the chance to drop a Bandosian soulstone.
- Join a session: You can join any open session on a world, or enter the correct passcode set to join a friend or group's bossing adventures.
Equipment
This section of the guide covers all equipment set-ups for teams (3 or more players), duo fighters and people who taking on General Graardor on their own. Players taking on the challenge of Hard Mode should use the equipment set-up for solo players.
Items in bold provide protection against various factions. It is a good idea to have protection against Zamorakian followers in addition to protection against Bandosian followers.
Team Set-Ups (3+ Players)
Taking General Graardor on in a team is primarily done by mid-level players rather than high-level due to the relative low value of the possible drops and due to how easy he is. Melee is the most effective way of taking down Graardor, however magic is not out of the question although there are less effective options open to lower levelled players. Depending on your team's ability you might want to consider having a "tank" who takes the majority of the damage by using the "incite" ability. The tank should use the melee set-up and ensure they are using at least Barrows armour.
Duo Set-Ups
Taking on General Graardor in a duo is a fairly common means of doing so, however similar to team killers it is mostly done for fun rather than profit due to the low value of possible drops. It your teammate is new to fighting General Graardor you may wish to use Tetsu armour and use "incite" to take the majority of the damage whilst they get used to it. Once again using magic is an option, although melee is the preferred attack style.
Solo/Hard Mode Set-Ups
Taking on General Graardor alone is pretty common for high levelled players due to top end gear making him very easy to kill, many high level players are able to do a trip without consuming food. With Tier 90 equipment, solo players can usually avoid being crashed by duos or teams unless they themselves have T90 gear. Using magic is effective if you use Virtus or Seismic equipment although melee is the most common attack style.
Hard Mode: For hard mode it is highly recommended that you use Tier 85 equipment or better.
Strategy
General Graardor is a fairly straightforward boss to deal with, regardless of ability. Upon entering the room you will be immediately attacked by Graardor and his sergeants (assuming they have not been recently killed) so ensure you have turned on your prayers and drank any potions required. Once you engage him it is very much a case of cycling through the basic abilities until you are able to unleash a threshold ability on him. Depending on the size of the team and the gear available, most people should have to use between 1-3 threshold abilities to kill him.
After the initial kill it becomes very easy to settle into a rhythm and, providing nobody panics if they take a lot of damage, it is quite difficult to die. Whilst waiting for Graardor and his sergeants to spawn the best location to stand is shown in the picture above. This location ensures that sergeants Steelwill and Grimspike are both within melee distance of you and can therefore be hit by any area abilities (flurry, chain, earthquake or hurricane) which speeds up the kill and helps maintains your health.
Some players find bringing a demon horn necklace as either a switch for their amulet or equipped for the whole fight along with a bonecrusher a good way of minimise the amount of prayer potions needed for the trip to allow for extra potions or food. This strategy is more viable for solo players as you cannot always guarantee getting the kill. High level players will find the use of the bonecrusher with soul split means they can stay at Graardor indefinitely.
Quick-Hopping
Due to the relatively slow spawn rates of General Graardor and his sergeants, particularly in quieter worlds, an option for players is to quick hop worlds between kills. The benefits of doing this are quicker kills, however to do it effectively you will likely need Drygores as it is likely you will have to crash other players. The downsides to it are that because Graardor is a popular target, it is not always easy to quick hop straight into a kill. Additionally it can require more food and prayer, although your overload doses will last more kills.
Hard Mode
For players wanting a challenge they can take on General Graardor in Hard Mode which is considerably more difficult than fighting him normally. Whilst his combat level remains the same, his lifepoints more than double and he gains some devastating special attacks. The potential loot from Graardor and his sergeants does increase somewhat in hard mode, however due to the difficulty and time taken to complete a kill it is more profitable to fight Graardor normally.

General Graardor has three special attacks that can be identified by Graardor calling out before initiating one, they are as follows:
- "Graardor mad": Graardor starts to swipe the area in front of him, causing significant damage to anyone that happens to be there. During this attack it is still possible to attack him from behind to avoid the damage.
- "Graardor smash": Graardor will slam the floor which causes the ceiling to collapse. The best thing to do here is watch for the shadows on the floor and run, getting hit by these will deal over 1000 lifepoints of damage per hit and they can quite easily kill you. If you are in a team, it is a good idea for each teammate to stay away from each other for the duration of the attack to prevent the rocks destined for you, hitting them. Graardor can use this attack repeatedly, leaving little time to recoup any lost health. Players using magic, and to an extent melee, can perform "hit and run" attacks during this attack however it can be risky.
- "Graardor protect": Graardor protects himself and reflects any damage dealt back on the player for half damage regardless of combat style. Players should avoid attacking Graardor during this time.
The trick to mastering hard mode Graardor is simply learning how to deal with his special attacks, the most potent being his "smash" attack which is just a case of practice. Panicking is also counter productive, if you panic during the "smash" attack and start spam clicking food the chances are you will die. It might even be worth considering having food on your ability bar whilst you get the hang of it so you do not waste time moving your mouse when you should be running.
In addition to the improved loot, players have a chance of receiving an item unique to hard mode: the Bandosian soulstone.
|
The Bandosian soulstone is a possible drop from General Graardor in hard mode only. It allows players to keep the killcount they have obtained from killing hard mode Graardor when they leave the dungeon therefore allowing them to be used to re-enter the boss room. This only works with hard mode kills, standard kills do not get stored on the soulstone. |
Rewards
Players who are able to defeat General Graardor and his sergeants may find themselves lucky enough to be rewarded with a piece of Bandos armour or a piece of the Bandos Godsword. In addition to this it is possible to unlock the three abilities that were previously available through the Bird and the Beast world event by killing Graardor. These abilities do not appear as items but instead a message appears in the chat box saying you have unlocked one of them.
Bandos armour is non-degradable, Tier 70 power armour and very popular with mid level players as well as those who have yet to unlock Tetsu armour. The Bandos Godsword is a Tier 75, two-handed weapon with high damage but average speed.
