Gauntlet of Souls - Halloween Event 2015

Gauntlet Of Souls Banner

Introduction

This Halloween, the Gauntlet of Souls beckons your presence. Help guide lost souls to their destination to the Underworld to gain XP and Noumenon favour - the main currency for the event. It won't all be a bowl of cherries though - you will have to face devourer beasts with either combat or Divination, and even team up to fight the Avatar of Amascut itself along the way! To begin, enter the Soul Rift next to Burthorpe lodestone. This is a safe event - if you die you will respawn on the spot.

The Underworld

When you enter the Soul Rift, you will see a HUD display. This will contain information including souls to be rescued and your current Noumenon favour.

The main activity is guiding the souls to the gate, which is done in two steps. Briefly, these entail hopping in a boat to gather lost souls, and then fighting back devourer beasts to get them through the gate to the Underworld. To begin, head down to the water surface on either side and take a jetty out on the water. More detail is in the table below.

Hop into a Jetty to start your journey (click the end of one of the two piers, not the boat itself). Along the way, gather souls by clicking on them, and your character will automatically row your boat to move. Souls will not ordinarily grant any XP, but once in a while a special soul will appear. These special souls have names such as "Soul of the Fallen Warrior" and will award experience in a given skill, i.e. Strength. By talking to Death outside the Soul Rift, one can find out what kinds of souls will be encountered for the day. Once you have gathered twenty (regular) souls, it will be time to proceed to the next step - though you can continue hunting down spirits for favour if you like. Note that the souls are instanced per player so you aren't competing with others. Each soul gives 5 favour, even after collecting 20 souls. Gauntlet Of Souls Sailing Souls
Other Events

There are a couple of additional random events you may encounter whilst gathering souls. A chatbox message and popup will pop up beforehand, prompting you to look for one.

  • Chests: click on the bubbling water to fish out an Adventurer's chest to your inventory. Open it up once back on dry land for a reward!
  • Special Souls: If you find one of the chosen few souls, you're in luck! It will grant you experience in the skill as hinted by its name - for example "of Warriors" will grant Attack XP. If you are a low level in the skill, the game will ask to confirm before granting you experience in the skill, just in case.
Gauntlet Of Souls Soul Events

Now that you have rounded up your souls, you can lead them to the gate of the Underworld. However, Amascut isn't going to let you do so without a fight! You will have to fight devourer beasts to get through to get to Icthlarin. You can do so in one of two ways:

  • Fight them directly with combat.
  • Siphon them with your Divination skill.

Note that even if you choose combat, you will not be given any combat XP. Some can be fought directly, and some can be siphoned. Right-click on them to check. You will receive 10 favour for defeating each devourer while escorting souls, and 3 when not escorting any.

Avatar of Amascut

Every 15 minutes, the Avatar of Amascut will appear and block your way. Players must work together to defeat the beast so that the souls can continue their journey into the Underworld. You will be rewarded with 400 favour if you are within a few steps of the avatar upon its defeat - engaging it in combat is not required.

Iclarthin will help you along, casting spells to deal damage as well as healing players. If you die, as with combat on the bridge, you will respawn and it will function as a safe death.

Surface world encounters

In addition to participating directly, during the course of the event you may encounter lost spirits on the surface world. Interact with them to gain XP in your choice of skill and obtain a Lost spirit. Then, take them to Sinn Derkwill in the Underworld to gain more Noumenon Favor.

Rewards

After saving up some Noumenon Favour, head to Sinn Derkwill in the Underworld to spend it on some cool rewards. They include the following:

Gauntlet Of Souls Event Rewards Free and members:
  • A Kharidian cat pet.
  • XP lamps usable on the skill of your choosing.
  • Death animation override that features you being dragged to Death's house by a devourer beast (unlocked automatically by defeating the Avatar of Amascut. The animation can be toggled at Death's house.
Members only:
  • Herb burner: a placeable item that can be used to burn herbs. When doing so you gain 10 times the experience from normally cleaning. Note that the rate of processing herbs is slower than ordinary cleaning.
  • Gravestone overrides: these resemble the jackal and lioness statues seen in the Underworld and will override the cosmetic appearance of your gravestone. These can be selected or deselected at Keldagrim shop.
Other
As an additional benefit to members, the Underworld plays host to another Ectofuntus. It functions similar to the surface world version, but there are no separate floors to cross to pick up buckets of slime, which considerable speeds up the process.

Tips and Tricks

  • After bringing 20 souls up through the final leg of their journey, one can speak to Icthlarin to be teleported back down to the south end of the bridge. It saves time over walking.
  • Although the event involves combat, you will not receive combat XP for fighting the devourers, so combat is safe for skillers or players who do not wish to gain combat experience.
  • The Avatar of Amascut will spawn 15 minutes after it was last defeated, so there will be a gap of slightly more than 15 minutes between appearances. Each world is therefore on its own independent timer as well.
  • Deaths are safe within this event, so you need not worry about losing your stuff!
  • The favour rewards for escorting souls and defeating Amascut were increased slightly about a day into the event. Souls also appear to spawn more often and closer together than originally.
