General Graardor
OverviewGeneral Graardor is one of the most popular bosses to kill amongst mid-level players due to his difficulty being low and there being very little strategy to killing him. This does not mean he is a pushover though as he can deal a considerable amount of damage in a very short amount of time if you are unlucky so it is always a good idea to keep an eye on your health. Like all God Wars bosses, Graardor has some support in his room who, between them, will attack players with all three sides of the combat triangle. Killing these before killing Graardor will result in them respawning. Players who are successful in defeating General Graardor and his sergeants have a chance to receive a rare piece of Bandos armour or a piece of the Bandos godsword.
Return to TopGetting to the StrongholdBandos' Stronghold is located in the north-west corner of the God Wars dungeon and requires 70 strength and a hammer (a hammer on your tool belt works) to enter. Within the Stronghold there are a number of Zamorakian followers who will attack you if you are not wearing a Zamorakian item, a shard of Zaros or a piece of Torva, Pernix or Virtus equipment. In the north-east of the Stronghold is the waiting room which requires you to have killed at least 40 Bandosian followers to enter. Getting Killcount Most of Bandos' followers in the dungeon have low defence but comparatively high lifepoints, however for players with high level gear it is possible to get the required killcount in under 5 minutes (one dose of overload). One of the better places to get killcount for mid-level players is just inside the Stronghold where a number of Jogres and Cyclops are located. For higher level players one of the best places is just outside the entrance to the Stronghold in the main dungeon. Here there is a high concentration of Bandosian followers that can be dealt with swiftly with the use of area abilities such as flurry. The use of soul split with a bonecrusher and demon horn necklace means lifepoints should remain high.
It is worth noting that if you get your killcount outside the Bandos Stronghold it is possible to be attacked by some of Armadyl's aviansie who will wander up into Bandos territory. Also at the northern end of Bandos territory there are a few wandering followers of Zamorak who will also attack you if they're not already occupied with Bandos' forces. The Waiting Room After obtaining the 40 killcount you can enter the chamber before General Graardor's room which is the Waiting Room. Upon entering the room 40 killcount will be taken from your total meaning that if you leave, you will have to obtain 40 killcount again. The waiting room is a safe area so players can wait for their teammates and is a good place to do any final preparations before facing Graardor. Clicking on the door to Graardor's chamber gives you four options:
Return to TopEquipmentThis section of the guide covers all equipment set-ups for teams (3 or more players), duo fighters and people who taking on General Graardor on their own. Players taking on the challenge of Hard Mode should use the equipment set-up for solo players. Team Set-Ups (3+ Players)Taking General Graardor on in a team is primarily done by mid-level players rather than high-level due to the relative low value of the possible drops and due to how easy he is. Melee is the most effective way of taking down Graardor, however magic is not out of the question although there are less effective options open to lower levelled players. Depending on your team's ability you might want to consider having a "tank" who takes the majority of the damage by using the "incite" ability. The tank should use the melee set-up and ensure they are using at least Barrows armour. Duo Set-UpsTaking on General Graardor in a duo is a fairly common means of doing so, however similar to team killers it is mostly done for fun rather than profit due to the low value of possible drops. It your teammate is new to fighting General Graardor you may wish to use Tetsu armour and use "incite" to take the majority of the damage whilst they get used to it. Once again using magic is an option, although melee is the preferred attack style. Solo/Hard Mode Set-UpsTaking on General Graardor alone is pretty common for high levelled players due to top end gear making him very easy to kill, many high level players are able to do a trip without consuming food. With Tier 90 equipment, solo players can usually avoid being crashed by duos or teams unless they themselves have T90 gear. Using magic is effective if you use Virtus or Seismic equipment although melee is the most common attack style. Hard Mode: For hard mode it is highly recommended that you use Tier 85 equipment or better. Return to TopStrategyGeneral Graardor is a fairly straightforward boss to deal with, regardless of ability. Upon entering the room you will be immediately attacked by Graardor and his sergeants (assuming they have not been recently killed) so ensure you have turned on your prayers and drank any potions required. Once you engage him it is very much a case of cycling through the basic abilities until you are able to unleash a threshold ability on him. Depending on the size of the team and the gear available, most people should have to use between 1-3 threshold abilities to kill him. After the initial kill it becomes very easy to settle into a rhythm and, providing nobody panics if they take a lot of damage, it is quite difficult to die. Whilst waiting for Graardor and his sergeants to spawn the best location to stand is shown in the picture above. This location ensures that sergeants Steelwill and Grimspike are both within melee distance of you and can therefore be hit by any area abilities (flurry, chain, earthquake or hurricane) which speeds up the kill and helps maintains your health. Some players find bringing a demon horn necklace as either a switch for their amulet or equipped for the whole fight along with a bonecrusher a good way of minimise the amount of prayer potions needed for the trip to allow for extra potions or food. This strategy is more viable for solo players as you cannot always guarantee getting the kill. High level players will find the use of the bonecrusher with soul split means they can stay at Graardor indefinitely. Quick-Hopping Due to the relatively slow spawn rates of General Graardor and his sergeants, particularly in quieter worlds, an option for players is to quick hop worlds between kills. The benefits of doing this are quicker kills, however to do it effectively you will likely need Drygores as it is likely you will have to crash other players. The downsides to it are that because Graardor is a popular target, it is not always easy to quick hop straight into a kill. Additionally it can require more food and prayer, although your overload doses will last more kills. Return to TopHard ModeFor players wanting a challenge they can take on General Graardor in Hard Mode which is considerably more difficult than fighting him normally. Whilst his combat level remains the same, his lifepoints more than double and he gains some devastating special attacks. The potential loot from Graardor and his sergeants does increase somewhat in hard mode, however due to the difficulty and time taken to complete a kill it is more profitable to fight Graardor normally.
General Graardor has three special attacks that can be identified by Graardor calling out before initiating one, they are as follows:
The trick to mastering hard mode Graardor is simply learning how to deal with his special attacks, the most potent being his "smash" attack which is just a case of practice. Panicking is also counter productive, if you panic during the "smash" attack and start spam clicking food the chances are you will die. It might even be worth considering having food on your ability bar whilst you get the hang of it so you do not waste time moving your mouse when you should be running.
Return to TopRewardsPlayers who are able to defeat General Graardor and his sergeants may find themselves lucky enough to be rewarded with a piece of Bandos armour or a piece of the Bandos Godsword. In addition to this it is possible to unlock the three abilities that were previously available through the Bird and the Beast world event by killing Graardor. These abilities do not appear as items but instead a message appears in the chat box saying you have unlocked one of them. Bandos armour is non-degradable, Tier 70 power armour and very popular with mid level players as well as those who have yet to unlock Tetsu armour. The Bandos Godsword is a Tier 75, two-handed weapon with high damage but average speed.
