Dungeoneering - Fremennik Sagas

Introduction

For untold centuries, Skaldrun, an ancient Fremennik storyteller, has been frozen in the ice beneath Daemonheim - cursed by the twisted magic of the dungeons. He has silently witnessed a great number of strange events during his imprisonment, and adventurers who manage to find and free the old storyteller can look forward to sharing in some of his knowledge of the mysteries of Daemonheim...

The Fremennik Sagas are essentially repeatable Dungeoneering miniquests which provide additional information on the back-story of Daemonheim. Rather than using their own ingame avatars, players take control of NPCs during each Saga and "re-enact" the past adventures of those same NPCs within Daemonheim. Rewards include Skill XP and Dungeoneering Tokens, although the rewards are only given the first time a Saga is completed.

Getting Started

Skaldrun is trapped in the dungeons of Daemonheim, and so adventurers willing to brave the dangers of rescuing him must first travel there.

Daemonheim

Daemonheim is located on a peninsula to the east of the Wilderness. The Ring of Kinship offers players a direct teleport, although taking the ship west of Al-Kharid bank to the peninsula is a fair alternative. It is also possible to walk to Daemonheim, but doing so requires travelling through the Wilderness. Due to the chance of dying on the way, this last route is not recommended.

Skaldrun - The Frozen Figure Once you've arrived at Daemonheim, you must form a Dungeoneering party and search the Frozen Floors (1-11) for Skaldrun, who will be encased in ice. He can only be found on these floors at a Complexity Level of 2+, so bear this in mind. His location is not marked on the minimap, so also take care to search each room thoroughly.

As soon as you've found him, simply melt the ice by either lighting a fire (using a tinderbox and a set of logs) or casting any form of offensive fire spell (using the relevant runes). Upon freeing the storyteller, speak with him, and he'll teleport out of the dungeon. Collect the "Bear-Pelt" which appears in the room after Skaldrun teleports away, and you can then leave the dungeon; completing the floor isn't mandatory.

The Fremennik Sagas

On the surface, Skaldrun stands just west of Thok and Marmaros, the Dungeoneering Master and Rewards Trader, respectively. As thanks for freeing him, he will allow his rescuers to magically "relive" certain adventures (Sagas) which had previously occurred in Daemonheim - as often as they desire. There are currently 5 Sagas available, with each Saga having an abridged and unabridged version. The two versions are largely similar, although the unabridged Sagas have slightly-expanded stories and demand more difficult requirements in order to start.

Rescuing Skaldrun is only the first step to starting the Sagas; there are other requirements which must be met as well. In addition to satisfying the level requirements, players also have to recover the necessary "Memory" for Skaldrun to properly recall each Saga. The Memories take the form of items hidden within certain dungeon floors (similarly to how the frozen storyteller was originally hidden somewhere in floors 1-11), and once one is recovered, the corresponding Saga is unlocked. More information on the Memories is provided in the individual Saga requirement sections.

The first time players complete a Saga, they are rewarded with Skill XP and Dungeoneering Tokens via tomes. While the Sagas can be repeated indefinitely, the tomes are given only once.

  • If the abridged version is completed first, then an 'Abridged Tome' is awarded.
  • If the unabridged version is completed after the abridged version, then only an 'Unabridged Tome' is awarded.
  • If the unabridged version is completed before the abridged version, then both Tomes are awarded.

In other words, players can only receive two tomes per Saga. Refer to the rewards section for the full list of XP/Token rewards.

Three's Company Saga

Requirements

Bear-Pelt Memory The "Bear-Pelt" Memory unlocks the Three's Company Saga. Search the Frozen Floors (1-11) at a Complexity Level of 2+ to find this, although if you've already freed Skaldrun, then simply look in the room that he was frozen in (after he teleports out of the dungeon). Note that Memories do not appear on the minimap.

Skill Level Requirements for the Abridged Saga: 6 Dungeoneering

Additional Requirements for the Unabridged Saga: 30 Attack, 30 Magic, 30 Ranged

Overview

The Three's Company Saga introduces 3 of Runescape's Signature Heroes: Sir Owen, Ozan, and Ariane. In this adventure, the trio journeys into the dungeons of Daemonheim on a hunt for a bandit leader and beastmaster named Carn. He escaped into the dungeons after kidnapping Pikkupstix (the Master of Summoning) and seeking to gain control over monsters and familiars in an attempt to wreck havoc across Gielinor.

Players must take control over the party of NPCs (consisting of a Warrior, Ranger, and Mage), successfully navigate them through the dungeon, and defeat Carn (the boss). Secondary objectives include freeing Pikkupstix and collecting Dungeoneering ores/smithing techniques. None of the party NPCs may die during the course of the dungeon, or else the Saga will be failed.

Notes:

  • This Saga is available to both P2P and F2P players.
  • Only one NPC can be controlled at a time, but players are free to switch between the party members.
  • There are right-click "Wait" options on the party members, which causes them to stop moving unless it is reverted.
  • The right-click "Mark" option on monsters in the dungeon will force the entire party to attack the marked monster.
  • Each NPC has only 300 LP, so it is highly recommended to pick up food drops throughout the dungeon.
  • For help in solving any of the puzzles, refer to the Dungeoneering Guide.

In the abridged version of the Saga, only the main objective (gaining access to Room #15 and defeating Carn) should be considered. The secondary objectives (e.g. collecting Dungeoneering ores) are only present in the unabridged version.

Vengeance Saga

Requirements

Collection Of Swords Memory The "Collection of Swords" Memory unlocks the Vengeance Saga. Search the Abandoned Floors (12-17) at a Complexity Level of 2+ to find this. Note that Memories do not appear on the minimap.

Skill Level Requirements for the Abridged Saga: 23 Dungeoneering

Additional Requirements for the Unabridged Saga: 55 Agility, 55 Thieving

Overview

The Vengeance Saga follows a Forgotten Warrior as she seeks to avenge the death of her brother, who was killed by an adventuring party. On the verge of death herself, she struggles to ward off madness-induced illusions while hunting down the members of the guilty party through one of the dungeons of Daemonheim.

Players must take control over the Forgotten Warrior and exact her vengeance. There are 4 NPCs which make up the guilty adventuring party, and they must all be found and defeated. The Warrior is chronically poisoned, however, so great care must be taken to avoid dying (which results in failing the Saga). Players can choose whether to pursue "Noble" or "Ruthless" Vengeance through certain actions taken during the Saga, but this doesn't affect the rewards received upon completion. Instead, it determines whether the Forgotten Warrior's special attack can be used to heal her (Noble) or inflict greater damage on enemies (Ruthless); as she becomes more Noble or Ruthless, the special attacks become more useful/effective.

Notes:

  • This Saga is only available to P2P players.
  • Be sure to pick up every piece of food available, as there's a fair chance of dying in this Saga.
  • The poison cannot be cured, although drinking Antipoison Elixirs (obtained by killing Hellhounds) can temporarily alleviate the condition.
  • While under the effects of an Antipoison Elixir, be cautious of attacking Dungeon Spiders; while they can provide valuable food drops, they can also repoison the Warrior - effectively wasting the Elixir.
  • Occasionally, an illusion of the Warrior's dead brother (Taevas) will appear and start talking. It is recommended to ignore him.
  • For help in solving any of the puzzles, refer to the Dungeoneering Guide.

In the abridged version of the Saga, only the main objective (defeating the 4 adventurers) should be considered. The secondary objectives (e.g. improving the Forgotten Warrior's special attack) are only present in the unabridged version.

Directions

Vengeance Saga - Dungeon
  1. Bank all of your items, and start the Vengeance Saga by talking to Skaldrun.
  2. Enter Room #1. Defeat the 4 Forgotten Warriors, and click through the following cutscene.
  3. Return to the Base, and speak to Orin. Either give him a piece of food (+Noble), or let him die (+Ruthless), and collect the Silver Crescent Key afterward.
  4. Unlock the Silver Crescent Door, and enter Room #2. Defeat Lotheria Seldorina by either facing her directly (+Noble) or ambushing her from behind one of the pillars in the Room (+Ruthless). Solve the Runecrafting Puzzle.
  5. Enter Room #3. Kill the 2 Dungeon Spiders for food, if needed.
  6. Enter Room #4. Defeat Ican Haz by either facing him directly (+Noble) or pulling the lever in the Room to unleash a horde of Skeletons (+Ruthless). Collect the Blue Triangle Key he drops.
  7. Unlock the Blue Triangle Door, and enter Room #5. Kill the 2 Hellhounds for Antipoison Elixir, if needed.
  8. Enter Room #6. Kill or ignore the Dungeon Spider, and talk to Argax. Either allow her to die peacefully (+Noble), or force her to vainly fight for her life (+Ruthless).
  9. Enter Room #8. Pull all 5 Levers in the Room as quickly as possible, which causes the next Door to unlock.
  10. Enter Room #9. Kill the Hellhound and Dungeon Spider for supplies, if necessary.
  11. Enter Room #10. Talk to Korel, and either allow him to live (+Noble), or kill him for aiding the adventurers (+Ruthless).
  12. Enter Room #11. Quickly defeat Lola Wut; otherwise, she could flee to one of the nearby Rooms. Either face her directly (+Noble), or poison the Fishing Spot in Room #12 and wait for her to fish from it (+Ruthless). The poision can be found by searching the tables in Room #11. Collect the Crimson Rectangle Key after she dies.
  13. Enter Room #12. Examine the corpse of Shianna.
  14. Enter Room #13. Talk to Peleas, and either tell him that Shianna is still alive (+Noble), or that she has died (+Ruthless).
  15. Unlock the Crimson Rectangle Door (Room #14), and enter the Boss Room (Room #15). Defeat Kay Thankxby, and choose how to end the Saga. Note: Kay Thankxby can be somewhat difficult to defeat, so it is recommended to make liberal use of the Forgotten Warrior's special attacks. Also, attacking her right as she teleports will inflict extra damage on her; keep this in mind.

Congratulations! You've successfully completed the Vengeance Saga!

Thok It To 'Em Saga

Requirements

Scribbled Note Memory The "Scribbled Note" Memory unlocks the Thok It To 'Em Saga. Search the second set of Abandoned Floors (30-35) at a Complexity Level of 2+ to find this. Note that Memories do not appear on the minimap.

Skill Level Requirements for the Abridged Saga: 59 Dungeoneering

Additional Requirements for the Unabridged Saga: 70 Strength

Overview

The Thok It To 'Em Saga recounts one of Thok's and Marmaros' (the Master of Dungeoneering and Dungeoneering Rewards Trader, respectively) many epic adventures in the dungeons of Daemonheim. After Marmaros is injured in a boss fight, Thok is forced to continue on alone in search of something or someone to heal his dear brother.

Players must take control over Thok as he charges ahead through a dungeon - laying waste to everything in his path. As the Master of Dungeoneering and an immensely powerful warrior, Thok can kill most monsters - even bosses! - with relative ease. While he doesn't possess the intelligence of Marmaros, he is nevertheless able to "solve" a number of puzzles with his sheer strength. Upon the defeat of an enemy or the "completion" of a puzzle, he is filled with great confidence, restoring his health and some of his special attack bar. Once Thok finds his Pretty Lass (a Divine Skinweaver) within the dungeon, he can have her heal Marmaros and complete the Saga after a final boss fight.

Notes:

  • This Saga is only available to P2P players.
  • While Thok's primary method of healing is defeating enemies, he can also eat raw food dropped by monsters.
  • Thok wields a Primal 2h Sword, but can use a variety of devastating special attacks; since his special attack bar is restored by killing monsters, feel free to activate the special attacks often.
  • There are several Dungeoneering boss monsters in the dungeon, and Thok regains 1k LP and 100% special attack energy after defeating each of them.
  • Everything in the dungeon is seen from Thok's point-of-view, and without Marmaros to help him, many of the monsters and items are labelled with unusual names which Thok has taken to calling them.
  • The Room marked "N/A" on the map cannot be accessed; it contains a fearsome ferret, and so Thok refuses to enter the Room.

In the abridged version of the Saga, only the main objective (having Pretty Lass heal Marmaros and defeating the Luminescent Icefiend afterward) should be considered. The secondary objectives (e.g. collecting trophies from several boss monsters) are only present in the unabridged version.

  24. After Marmaros has been healed, Thok will be sent directly to Room #21. Defeat the Luminescent Icefiend. Refer to Icefiend's bestiary entry for information on the strategy.

Congratulations! You've successfully completed the Thok It To 'Em Saga!

Nadir Saga

Requirements

Nadir Damageddevice The "Damaged Device" Memory unlocks the Nadir Saga. Search the low Furnished Floors (18-22) at a Complexity Level of 2+ to find this. Note that Memories do not appear on the minimap.

Skill Level Requirements for the Abridged Saga: 35 Dungeoneering

Additional Requirements for the Unabridged Saga: 55 Dungeoneering, 45 Thieving and 60 Attack

Overview

Take control of Moia, daughter of the Mahjarrat Lucien, in a search for Bilrach that takes you deep into Daemonheim. Using her special abilities to control NPCs and infiltrate the area without detection in this saga to discover lots of the lore behind Dungeoneering! It is recommended to play this saga with the Runescape sounds turned on, as it is required to solve puzzles.

Notes:

  • This Saga is only available to P2P players.
  • Combat as Moia can be tough at times, on the first two floors make sure to use your special attacks whenever needed. On the final floor, kiting, trapping and luring should be used to isolate enemies from the main group before picking them off.
  • Take your time over the memory probes, and only place a probe when certain that it is the correct area.
  • Do not attempt to charge from a portal while in combat, as you will be interrupted and the portal will become inactive.
  • Locate and charge at a portal once you drop down to around 10-20% portal energy. Keeping active with portal energy at all times is a secondary objective.

In the abridged version of the Saga, only the main objective (finding Bilrach) should be considered. The secondary objectives (perfect memory probes, answering all questions correctly and ending with maximum portal energy) are only present in the unabridged version.

Directions

Nadir
  1. After the cutscene, listen to Lucien and Zemouregal until they call you over. It is not required to explore the area. Click through the dialogue until Lucien sends Moia to search for Bilrach.
  2. Now at Daemonheim, head north up the steps and make your way east to the crates. After the cutscene, make your way over to the Merchant, this is the first memory probe, explained below.
    Nadir Memoryprobe
  3. Memory probe: Make sure your sounds are on and turned up. The current memories on the probe (seen above) do not help with finding the correct spots. Place your probe where the circular cursor blinks the fastest and emits a slighly higher pitched pulse. There is an area around the correct spot that will still blink and emit a pulse, so take your time to find the perfect spot. Do this three times to complete the memory probe
  4. After the dialogue, Moia will take control of the Merchant. Head north up another set of steps into Daemonheim castle, and climb down either of the entrances in the foyer. The above Dungeon map can now be used.
  5. From Room #1, make your way through the door into Room #2. The Captain will confront you, complete the second memory probe in the same way as before to find out some useful information and take control of him.
  6. After the dialogue, make your way into Room #3, and from here continue into Room #4. Moia will realise she needs to act as the Captain would to pass unhindered. Go through the next door to Room #5.
  7. Open and investigate the north door (Room #6) and then double back and enter Room #7. A Soldier will ask you a question, tell him "Got something to get off your chest, soldier? Be my guest". Enter Room #8.
  8. The yellow wedge door cannot be opened, so Enter Room #9 to the south.
  9. A mage calls you over and asks about a transfer request. Tell him "Ask me later, Druf. I have no time for you right now". Enter Room #10, and another soldier will question you. Tell him "Tell them to wait there, and no practise until I return". You cannot enter the Orange shield door or Runed door, so enter Room #11.
  10. If you made the soldiers suspicious with your answers in the previous section, some may attack you in this room. Simply defeat them and leave through the east door.
  11. From Room #12, enter Room #13. Open and investigate Room #14, which is a dead end, then proceed through Room #15.
  12. You are confronted by a Necrolord, complete the final memory probe to gain some information. He will attack, quickly kill him using your special attack to deal high damage. You will take control of the Necrolord. Enter the door to the south.
  13. Now in Room #16 Enter Room #17. Open and investigate Room #18, then double-back and enter Room #19. A Necrolord will question you, tell him "Cut off their hands".
  14. Enter Room #20 and then Room #21. Another Necrolord will question you, tell him "Kill him, or I will kill you". You cannot enter the Gold diamond door, so enter Room #22. After Moia has sapped both portals, enter Room #23.
  15. A Necrolord will question you, tell him "His body is on the floor above. Fetch it yourself, I am busy". Enter Room #24.
  16. As before, if you aroused suspicion with your answers during this section, some Necrolords may attack you in this room. Simply kill them (using your special attacks if need be), then enter Room #25. Drain both of the Portals, and enter Room #26.
  17. Follow the Hooved mage into Room #27, where it will see through your disguise and attack you. Use this time to get used to Moia's attack styles by switching between fire, water and earth magic spells. Each has a different speed and special effect that can be used to your advantage in combat.
  18. Drain the Portal in this room and enter Room #28. Defeat all the enemies. When the final enemy is killed, exit through the door to the east.
  19. From Room #29, enter Room #30. Kill all the enemies by luring the Soldiers away from the rangers and killing them individually. Keep an eye on your Portal energy and recharge it whenever you drop to around 10-20% energy. Losing it will cause you to fail a secondary objective.
  20. After all the enemies are killed, enter Room #31. Unlock the Silver shield door using Portal energy and enter Room #32. Kill all the enemies, then enter Room #33.
  21. Pass through this room into Room #34, and kill all the enemies. The next room is quite tough, so charge your portal energy before entering. Unlock the Green pentagon door and enter Room #35.
  22. Kill all the enemies here, using the cell to the west as cover if need be. After they have been dispatched, enter Room #36, and continue through the western door.
  23. Moia will enter Room #37, from here enter the Boss room. After the dialogue, investigate the Ritual marker. Tell Lucien that Bilrach is alive and not a threat, then talk to Bilrach. When presented with five chat options, go through all of them until the "What happens now?" option appears. Choose this and you will be presented with a choice of how to proceed. Regardless of your choice the outcome is the same so choose one, and after a short cutscene the saga will end.

Congratulations! You've successfully completed the Nadir Saga!

Thok Your Block Off

Requirements

Rock and twin ebundle The "Rock and Twine bundle" Memory unlocks the Thok Your Block Off. Search the low Occult Floors (36-40) at a Complexity Level of 2+ to find this. Note that Memories do not appear on the minimap.

Skill Level Requirements for the Abridged Saga: 71 Dungeoneering

Additional Requirements for the Unabridged Saga: 75 Strength

Overview

The Thok It To 'Em saga must have been completed before you can start Thok Your Block Off. Take control of Thok once again in a race against Marmoros to kill the most monsters in a dungeon and to retrieve Thok's sword. Timed rooms are present in this saga, where monsters will continue to spawn until the timer runs out, allowing you to rack up high kill counts!

Notes:

  • This Saga is only available to P2P players.
  • While Thok's primary method of healing is defeating enemies, he can also eat raw food dropped by monsters.
  • Everything in the dungeon is seen from Thok's point-of-view, and many of the monsters and items are labelled with unusual names which Thok has taken to calling them.
  • Thok is not as powerful in this saga as in Thok It To 'Em, so targeting more powerful enemies first is advised to minimise damage taken.
  • Marmoros' kill count will only go up while Thok is also in combat. Dispatch enemies as fast as possible to stay ahead!

In the abridged version of the Saga, only the main objective, retrieving Thok's sword, should be considered. The secondary objectives (Beating Marmoros, giving the Best Thing Ever to the Pretty Lass, and opening all the rooms) are only present in the unabridged version.

Directions

Frem Sagas Thokblock
  1. You start as Thok in Room #1. Kill all the enemies then talk to Marmaros, who suggests a challenge.
  2. Enter the Boss door into Room #2. After a cut-scene, climb the ladder to the west.
  3. Now in Room #3, go north into Room #4. Kill all the enemies here.
  4. Enter Room #5. Kill all the enemies, and fish in the "bubbly water" for some food.
  5. Enter Room #6, which is a timed room. Enemies will continue to spawn until the timer runs out, so kill them quickly to gain a high kill count. Once the last enemy is defeated, pick up the "Orange thing" that it drops.
  6. Enter Room #7. Kill all the enemies, and Thok will automatically talk to Marmaros. Fish the "Bubbly water" for some food.
  7. Investigate the Orange shield door to unlock it using the Orange thing. Proceed through it into Room #8.
  8. Thok is taken by a fey mood, and wants to make something. "Pick" three frilly plants and "Mine" three crumbly stuff from the ore and plant deposits in the room. Now combine them on the Spinny-stuff maker (Loom) to make the Best Thing Ever.
  9. Go back into Room #7 and then north into Room#8. Kill all the enemies.
  10. Enter Room #10, which is another timed room. Once the last spider is defeated, pick up the "Blue brick" that it drops.
  11. Investigate the Blue rectangle door to unlock it using the Blue brick. Proceed through it into Room #11.
  12. In Room #11 Thok will talk to the Pretty Lass. Give her the Best Thing Ever and she will give you the Fishy cake in return. Thok will go back to Room #10.
  13. Enter Room #12 and kill all the enemies. The mage inside the cell can be reached by opening the door.
  14. Enter Room #13 and you will meet Marmaros again. After the dialogue fish in the Bubbly water to find Mini-marm and Mrs Mini-marm, who will attach themselves to your wrists as Thok's crab fists.
  15. Enter Room #14 and kill all the enemies. The Big trouble and Skeletons that use magic should be dispatched quickly using special attacks.
  16. Enter Room #15, which is the final timed room. Prioritise monsters with low lifepoints to get the most kills, and kill off dangerous enemies with special attacks. Once the last monster is defeated, pick up the "Red pointy stone" that it drops. Fish the two Bubbling water spots for food.
  17. Backtrack into Room #14 and investigate the Crimson diamond door. Proceed through it into Room #16.
  18. After the cutscene, make your way all the way east to Room #17. Kill the monsters here, and be aware that the mages can do some quite high damage. Fish the two spots if you need food.
  19. Enter the Boss room. Attack the "A face only his mum loves" and "Derek" when Bone face summons them, however they are too fast for Thok. Attack "Ate all the pies", which Thok can hit, and prepare for the actual fight. Target "Ate all the pies" and ignore the other two. When you deal enough damage he will attempt to eat one of the others, so lure him towards them. Repeat this until "A face only his mum loves" and "Derek" have been killed, at which point you can finish off "Ate all the pies".
  20. Since Room #18 is a dead end, return to the Boss room to finish the Saga.

Congratulations! You've successfully completed the Thok Your Block Off Saga!
