Stealing Creation

Introduction

In the wilderness, just south of the Wilderness Volcano crater, strange phenomena have been occurring. There is a portal to a realm populated entirely by "sacred clay" which possesses the ability to mold itself into nearly any object or material imaginable. A group of individuals known as Mystics have found this portal and stabilized it, but they are currently looking for adventurers brave enough to venture into the realm and imbue it with energy.

In this game, skill-loving players and combat-loving players can work together. Skill is required to create all necessary game items: weapons, armour, runes, and tools. Combat can be used against the other team, and players can pickpocket the other team for items as well. It's good for teams to have players of both types in its ranks. Jagex suggests Worlds 158 and 164 to find other players. In the Primordial Realm, doing nearly anything to help your team will gain you points. You lose points, however, through taking items from your base. You can see your individual score in the upper left corner, and the time remaining in the upper right. A game can last up to 20 minutes.

Preparation

If you have access to the Ancient Magicks spellbook, and plan to fight during the game, change to it before you go. The spells in it are very helpful in combat.

There are no requirements to play Stealing Creation, but as it is based upon skill and combat experience. The higher your stats in relevant skills, the better you will perform.

Ideally, use a games necklace and teleport to the Wilderness Volcano (formerly Bounty Hunter), and then walk a short distance southwest to the game area. While walking to the game, you may encounter revenants, but the game area itself is a safe zone. Wearing armour for this brief walk is up to you.

A deposit box in the game area allows you to bank your possessions, because you cannot take any items into Stealing Creation. If you are defeated during the game, you will respawn inside the game.

When you are ready to leave the game's safe zone, you may choose to walk south through the Wilderness. However, on the western side of the safe zone, there is a mystic who will gladly "teleport" you to your respawn point. This is safe and you won't lose any items.

Sacred Clay

Sacred Clay is the basis for this game. You need to gather sacred clay and convert it into items to do nearly anything in the game. Sacred Clay can either be dropped off at your teams base table (a safe area, which contains a table for dropping off clay or items, a mystic who can show you the amounts and types of clay available, and tables which store any items your team may have dropped off), or you can convert it into items at a creation kiln.

  • Class One Clay can only make class one items. Higher classes will make the highest level of clay they can, so long as you have the levels to make it. Class Five Clay will always make the highest class of item you can make. So, a Level Four piece of Clay can make up to Level Four items.
  • Each class of item has level requirements; Class One can be used by anyone, Class Two requires level 20 in the relevant skill, Class Three requires level 40, Class Four requires level 60, and Class Five requires level 80.

To make an item, choose the class on the left side of the creation kiln dialogue, then the item you desire from the middle list. The Kiln will automatically attempt to use the highest level of clay you have, but you can set it to a lower level of clay if you wish.

Creation Kiln

Most players will begin with making a tool to gather higher quality clay. There are four different types of tools, which each correspond to a different type of resource.

  • Pickaxe - Mining
  • Hatchet - Woodcutting
  • Harpoon - Fishing
  • Butterfly Net - Hunter

Although harvesting clay from these resources is made far easier by using the corresponding tool, the use of these tools is not required; you can still gather clay from any type of resource without a tool, just at a slower pace than normal.

Not all of these types of resources may be present in a game; they appear randomly, so having balanced skill levels is an aid.

Also, to harvest the various levels of resources, you need to have a certain level in the relevant skill. These are listed below.

  • Class One - Anyone
  • Class Two - 20
  • Class Three - 40
  • Class Four - 60
  • Class Five - 80

Sacred Clay can also be made into armour, food, weapons, and potions. Potions doses are equivalent to the Class of the Sacred Clay used; this means some potions will have five doses! The types of potions available are: energy, prayer, ranging, summoning, super attack, super strength, magic, and defence. Of course, the higher the level of clay used, the higher quality the weapons, armour, and ammunition produced will be. In addition, the quality of the food is dependent on the level of class used, as seen below.

Playing the Game

The object of this game is to gather more clay than the other team, by gaining more points. Any clay or items you gather that you are not using should be stored safely in your team's base for points. Items will automatically distribute themselves to the tables in your base; you can take any item you wish from these tables, but it will decrease your score.

A game can last up to 20 minutes. At 19 minutes, or when all sources of sacred clay have been exhausted, players are notified that the game is about to end and a 1-minute countdown begins. At this point, it is suggested to return to your team's base and deposit any remaining clay and/or items you may have, in order to gain as many points as possible.

Control

Your team's chances can be improved based upon the number of resources you control. To control a resource, you need to merely place four barriers around it, which can be made using your construction skill to convert clay into barriers at a Creation Kiln. Once barriers have been placed around a resource, only your players may enter through it. The opponents may break this wall down, but walls can be repaired by your team. Higher Class barriers take more damage before falling.

Combat

Combat is an important part of stealing creation. There are no restrictions at all during Stealing Creation, except that you cannot attack your own team. Therefore, high levels may be required to protect players with high skill levels but low combat ability. You may hamper your enemies progress by threatening and attacking them, and any items they drop will fall to the ground where you may take them. If you have access to the ancient magicks spellbook, have it activated when you begin the game. The spells in it are very helpful in combat.

Summoning

Pouches can be created out of Sacred Clay to fashion special summoned familiars in the Realm. These creatures are similar to other summoned creatures; they have a number of abilities and a special Clay Deposit special move activated through scrolls, which has the ability to send clay or items in their inventory to your base. These familiars are Beasts of Burden; they can carry 1, 6, 12, 18 or 24 items, varying on the quality of clay used to make the pouch, as well as holding a combat level of 25, 37, 58, 93 or 139, depending on the quality of clay.

Fog

Fog Banks are scattered about the Realm; you may use these to hide from enemies, or to lie in wait for a oblivious enemy to wander by, and attack or pickpocket them. While in a Fog Bank, you are entirely hidden to others; there will not even be a dot on the minimap. You cannot shoot arrows, cast spells, or summon familiars whilst in a Fog Bank. Mages should be careful around fog banks. Thieves hide in them waiting for a mage to pass by so they can steal runes. Not only are mages useless without runes, but you lose the potential for a large amount of points.

Pickpocketing

The strange environment in the Primordial Realm allows players to surreptitiously relieve opposing players of their possessions. Like the rest of Runescape, this cannot be done during combat. To thieve another player, your thieving must be 20 levels below your opponents or higher, so to steal from a level 85 thief you must have at least 65 thieving. To do so, simply right click a player and select pickpocket. If you are successful, you may liberate some of their clay objects or sacred clay itself to your team.

Altars

There are altars spaced around the Realm that instantly restore run energy, summoning, and prayer to maximum.

Scoring

Your individual score is shown in the top left corner of your screen. Increase it by collecting clay, making items, and depositing the items. Beware, taking items from your base decreases your score! Damaging an opponent also earns points. Depositing items or clay gotten from opponents (by pickpocketing or "kill") earns the same points as if you'd made them yourself. Your individual score also increases your team's total score. Below is the amount of points won and lost for various actions.

  • Gathering clay: 15 points per class.
  • Processing clay: 15 points per class.
  • Depositing clay: 15 points per class.
  • Depositing clay items: 30 points per class.
  • Combat: 5 points per Hitpoints damage done.
  • Withdrawing items: Lose the same amount of points you would have gained for storing it.

Victory

The winning team is the team that has the highest score at the end of the twenty minute game. At the end, if you are on the winning team, 10% is added on to your individual score.

Strategy

Despite this game appearing to be a game where you merely need to increase your own scores superficially, this game is very dependent on teammates working together. Since not all players have very high levels in the skills used during the game as well as high combat, those with higher skills will need to cooperate with those with high combat. Players from the other team will often harass you while gathering clay, and you may do the same. If you kill another player, you may take all of their inventory, so it is a large boon to your team if this happens. In the other direction, those with high combat, but without the skills to make items they need to function are dependent on players able to make their weapons, armour, and ammunition.

An often-used method of gaining points consists of staking out medium to high level resource(s), then transiting between them and a kiln. The most often used second-tier item for this method is arrows, as they are stackable, and thus you do not need to return to the base often. Near the end of the game, you can return all the ammunition to the base for a very large amount of points. This strategy has risks, however; if you are killed or pickpocketed, you stand to lose a large amount of potential points.

Pickpocketing is much more useful than it would seem. Stackable ammunition can be stolen in vast chunks all at once, numbering in the thousands for a single successful pickpocket. Mages are often targeted for this, as they must carry ammunition in their inventories. You cannot steal equipped items. In addition, your chance of successfully pickpocketing a player depends on both their pickpocketing level and yours; if you have level 85 thieving and your target has level 99 thieving, your chance of success is low.

Making use of the summoned creatures can be vastly useful. With their deposit ability, you never actually have to return to the home base unless absolutely necessary. In addition, they can carry additional food or supplies, and can also engage in combat.

Use the terrain to your advantage. You or your teammates can erect barriers surrounding resources, so that only your teammates can enter it. Opponents can knock these down, but they can be great for a temporary escape if an enemy is after you. Fog clouds are also good for this purpose. In addition, fog clouds are very useful for ambushing unaware enemies. You can either attack them, or pickpocket some of their valuables. There are also various jumpable "rifts" that you can use to escape melee attackers.

Time is a huge factor in this minigame. Don't dally; get going as quickly as you can and get started before the enemy can start obtaining commodities and begin to harass you. The best way to gather resources is to use the highest level tool you can. Instead of starting off going to a high level resource and trying to be lucky enough to get a clay to exchange a tool, work your way up. Collect from the level 1 fragments, and create/trade tools from that. Then go to a higher level resource, and repeat.

Remember, depositing clay without making it into something earns only half as many points.

It is beneficial to help your team mates. At the beginning of the game, there may be a few people who need tools. If you have the extra clay, make some tools and deposit them at your base. This helps your score in two ways. First, it uses up the clay you already have and scores you the extra points. Second, with more players gathering resources for your team, the chances of a teammate with high resource gathering skills, but low item creation skills will increase. If they can't do anything with the high level clay they gather, you will be able to take the clay they've deposited and score points by making more items.

Rewards

After each game of Stealing Creation, you will receive Reward Points based on the amount of points you earned during the game. Your Reward Points are determined in this way:

Rewards can be bought from a Mystic in the building in the North-Eastern corner of the encampment in exchange for points gained from playing the game. You can also purchase recharges for the items from the same Mystic, in the same dialogue.

Morphic Tool (Proto-tool)

Costs 20 Points.

The Morphic tool is an mini-tool which can change into one of several different tools. You can command it to turn into a pickaxe, hatchet, butterfly net, hammer, knife, harpoon, or needle. These are used exactly the same as a normal tool, but provide a boost that doubles (2x) the experience you would ordinarily gain while using it. It has a level 40 skill requirement. It lasts for a certain amount of xp gained as that type of tool. Once all charges in this tool are used, it will disintegrate, and you will have to get a new one.

Volatile Tool

Costs 20 Points.

The Volatile tool is similar to the Volatile tool, but you do not choose which tool it transforms into. However, it provides a boost that more than doubles (2.2x) the experience you would ordinarily gain while using it. When you command it to change, it will randomly turn into a pickaxe, hatchet, butterfly net, hammer, knife, harpoon, or needle. If you do not wish to use that random tool, you can "sacrifice" 1/10th of the charges to get another random tool. You must have level 40 in the related skill to use the tool. The time you can use the tool depends upon your level in the skill; then it will return to its natural form. After ten changes, it will disintegrate.

Sacred Clay Equipment

Headgear costs 24 Points, Weapons cost 26 Points, Torso Armour costs 30 Points, and Leg Armour costs 28 Points.

Sacred Clay Armour and Weapons have the ability to morph into their counterparts at different sections of the combat triangle. To change this, simply operate the weapon/armour in your inventory. All clay armour and weapons you have will be instantly changed to that style of combat. This armour will degrade based on the amount of extra experience you gain by using it. While wearing this armour, you will receive double the normal combat experience. Once it has run out of extra experience, it will continue to function, but cannot transform or give you extra experience. A set is the sum of its' parts, so each item has a set amount of possible experience gained by use, rather than the set as a whole.
