RuneScape was offline for essential maintenace, while Jagex installed a new back-end database system. This will enable them to offer a much improved customer support service, and to continue making further runescape improvements in the future.

Unfortunately everything didn't go to plan and the new system had a few unexpected problems, so they have been forced to temporarily switch back to the old system.

Jagex will spend the next week working out what went wrong and then try again, and hopefully the transition will be much more smoother next time.
