It's the beginning of the Sixth Age and Zamorak has returned to Gielinor in a truly chaotic fashion, tearing apart the city of Lumbridge. With the death of Guthix at the hands of Sliske, the residual energy left over from the great god is spilling from the earth. Not wanting to leave this for the use of Zamorak, Saradomin has waged a new war in Lumbridge for the power. Calling on their new generals and armies, it's down to you to decide who you will fight for. Will it be for good and justice at the side of Saradomin, or chaos and destruction at the feet of Zamorak? The Battle of Lumbridge is on!
Upon first logging in after the update of RuneScape 3 on the 22nd July 2013, players will all be teleported to Lumbridge to view the cutscene, which is described above. After the cutscene takes place, players will be put next to the Lumbridge lodestone, and will be talked to by Kara-Meir, who will outline the situation at hand. It is then a player-choice whether they wish to fight for Saradomin or Zamorak.
Everyone gets a free choice as to which god they wish to fight for (if they do indeed choose to take a side) and there are no requirements to participate. To fight for good and order you may choose to fight with Saradomin, in which case you should run to the campsite located north of the rift on the map below. If you favour chaos and destruction then Zamorak is your god; he can be found at the campsite located south of
the rift also indicated on the map below.
To join Saradomin, talk to the Saradominist recruitment officer. For Zamorak, simply talk to the Zamorakian recruitment officer. Upon joining a side, you will be rewarded with a Bronze Saradominist token or a Bronze Zamorakian token. These can be used to teleport to the respective campsites, and will also track your progress throughout the event
as well as giving an emote.
The Saradomin and Zamorak tokens, respectively.
If you ever wish to change sides, you can do so by speaking to Kara-Meir
who is located at the edge of the battlefield near the Lodestone located on
the above map. Please note that changing sides will lose all progress
with the side you are switching from.
Note that stepping foot into the opposite god's camp will result in
the respective general hitting you for 10% of your maximum lifepoints every
few seconds.
The main aim of the event is to collect Divine tears for your god, which contain residual energy from
the fallen god Guthix. Collecting and depositing tears increases your god's
power over the other, which will have a decisive outcome in the main battle.
There are three main ways to obtain tears:
Gathering them directly from the battlefield by fishing through cracks
in the ground, mining the rocks that protrude from the battlefield or
woodcutting the formations that spring out of the battlefield.
Killing followers of the opposite god on the Battlefield. These come
with multiple combat styles including footsoldiers, rangers, snipers, sages
and warlocks.
Obtained throughout RuneScape off the battlefield when performing the
following tasks (note that this option can be turned off in the Battle of Lumbridge interface, found under the quest symbol in the menu tab):
Killing any creature that drops charms.
Farming
Fishing
Herblore
Hunter
Mining
Runecrafting
Woodcutting
Note that none of the above methods have a minimum skill requirement,
however having a high relevant skill level will allow you to gather tears
much faster than at low levels.
There is a maximum amount to the number of tears you can collect per day;
for free players this is 1320, but it is higher for members at
3000.
Random Events
Random events may occasionally occur on the battlefield, which can
provide temporary buffs or harmful effects to one or both sides. These are

Jagex Moderator Clones
Very rarely, a J-Mod clone will appear on the battlefield. These are NPCs who you can fight. They resemble members of the Jagex staff and their respective god alignment. Like all other fighters in the battle, they can use abilities similar to the player, and have a large amount of life points. Killing these clones will reward the player with increased tear drops as well as a number of humorous items which disappear when picked up such as the garish pink party hat, off-white party hat, really rotten potato and God banners aligned with Saradomin and Zamorak.
Depositing Tears
Once you've collected enough tears for your satisfaction, you can deposit
them in the collection points which are located next to your chosen god.
Upon doing so you will receive the following points:
Renown - The points used in the rewards
shop with the quartermasters. This is equal to 100% of the tears that
you deposit.
Votes - The points used to cast votes every week on which boosts
your faction should receive for the following week. This is equal to 10% of
the tears that you deposit (this is 'floored' rounding, meaning the amount
is always rounded down. For example, 1104 tears would equal 110 votes, as
would 1109).
Power - Power goes directly to your god, and is accounted for
globally in the overhead display (shown below). This shows which side is
winning the battle for power. This is equal to 10% of the tears that you
deposit (also floored).
The overhead display, which shows the power each god has
received globally. Also shows any boosts and your total contribution.
Each week the battle continues, it transpires that the local people of
Lumbridge are at crisis point; and the Duke of Lumbridge (not one for the
battle) will not idly stand by as his city crumbles. Members can speak to
the duke on the second floor of Lumbridge Castle and cast their vote as to
how each situation should be handled. Be warned though, the duke has a
starting budget of 160,000 and expending all your resources early will
inhibit your choices later.
Choosing to help the duke will automatically grant you some bonus experience
in any skill you should choose, regardless of how you vote to help. This
experience is granted as you train that skill.
