This minigame is very dynamic, involving different levels of tasks. Because of this, the minigame risk ratings are given in the task summaries (found at the beginning of the Easy, Medium, Hard and Elite task listings).
The New Varrock Tasks contain tasks that can be completed by low, medium, and high level players. They are closely tied to the Dimension of Disaster quest, requiring varying degrees of completion - but you will need to do the quest at least twice through for all rewards. What to wear is for you to decide, using your best judgement. Only selected tasks directly involve combat, so armour will not be necessary except for very low levels, who may want defence against ordinary monsters that exist around the towns. If you are going to fight a monster you might want armour and weapons. However, if you do not plan to do anything involving fighting and will be in a safe area, then lightweight clothing is suggested.
In general, Jagex allows players to use stat boosting items (such as potions, pies, ales or Evil Dave's stew) to increase a stat to do a task - however in New Varrock these can be somewhat hard to get a hold of and may not be worthwhile over training the skill a couple more levels. Also, player assist does not work. You are allowed to trade in New Varrock with other players, which can be an asset if you have a friend to help, as you can share armour or other such materials.
Every time you finish a task, you will get a message in your chat window stating that you've completed a task. You can perform the tasks in any order (Easy, Medium, Hard or Elite) that you wish. In order to help players plan effectively, a map showing the location for each task is available. It shows a code number for each task, which matches the lists in this guide. Check the map, bring what you need, and you're on your way!
Items: Book of Necrofelinomicon, Bucket of Curdled Milk, Cadava Berries, Doogle Leaf, Lockpick, Sardine, Vial of orange mist, Needle & Thread (toolbelt needle will suffice), and 2 pieces of either Imphide or Hardleather, OR 2 Iron bars
"A Cat's Bane" - Do something to deal with New Varrock's Stray Cat problem.
Doogle Leaf, Book of Necrofelinomicon, Sardine, and a Bucket of Curdled Milk.
The task requires you to help 4 cats located around New Varrock. Their names are Catbot 9000, Baron Mauser, Grumps, and 'Fraidy Cat, and locations are as follows.
Catbot 9000 - Located next to the bot announcer at the east bank and requires you to bring him a Doogle leaf (found in Xuan's Shop).
Baron Mauser - Located on the 2nd Floor of the Church and requires you bring him a Bucket of curdled milk from an undead dairy cow.
Grumps - Located in the Zamorakian Temple and requires you to bring him a sardine (found upstairs of Gertrude's house).
'Fraidy Cat - Located east of Gertrude's house and requires you to bring him the book "Necrofelinomicon" (found by searching the alter slab inside the Zamorak temple in south east Varrock).
Once all four cats have agreed to leave their spot, you can find them at Fluff's Grave at the west wall beside the West Bank.
"They had a Gudrun" - Find a way to silence Romeo, in Zemouregal's study.
First you will need to acquire a potion that makes you 'death-like' (Bring Cadava Berries to Thessalia). Then take the potion and enter Zemouregal's Study (which requires a Vial of orange mist) where you will use the 'death-like' potion on the head of Romeo.
"Pick Half" - Use a lockpick to open HALF of new Varrock's Treasure Chests.
Unlock 25 out of the 50 Treasure Chests located around New Varrock. See HERE for a map of chest locations.
"The Scrying Game" - Use Zemouregal's Scrying Pool to spy on the citizens of New Varrock.
Use the scrying pool in the treasure room of Zemouregal's castle and click on the first 6 options.
"Tier Gear" - Smith or craft a piece of level 10 armour (Iron, Imphide, or Hardleather).
10 crafting, Needle & Thread, and 2 pieces of either Imphide or Hardleather, or 10 Smithing and 2 Iron bars.
Make one of the following nine items: craft a Hardleather coif, body, or legs, Imphide hood, body, or legs, or smith an Iron helm, body, or legs. The head items only require two pieces so this may be slightly faster, but note you will need to make a full set should you wish to complete the elite tasks as well.
For information about the rewards for this set of tasks read below.
Wearing your zombie outfit, with the vault key in your inventory go to the south-east corner of Zemouregal's castle, and head upstairs. Once upstairs, head west to the Vault Outer Door and open it. Inside there with be three posters of Zemouregal. Deface all three.
"Micro-brew" - Whip up a batch of Zemouregal Brew for Tiny Zemouregal. Made with a Doogle leaf, Vial of water and Wine of Zemouregal.
Buy an empty vial from the New Varrock General Store, take it to Sir Prysin east of Zemouregal's castle. Use the empty vial on the sinks, buy a doogle leaf from Xuan by the Varrock fountain and add it to the vial. Head north into the castle, once inside head west. Take a jug from the stool and fill it with Zemouregal's Wine just a bit north. Add the wine to the vial then hand it to Tiny Zemouregal.

Push the red button and select the following in order (or else it won't work): Blood, Shadow, Smoke, Ice
"Changing of the Guard" - Defeat a New Varrock guard.Note: do not underestimate this task!
High combat and food recommended
Level 20 gear (required for Steel, Stud or Silk Salute task), weapon and some food is strongly recommended and will help kill the guard faster. For fastest completion, spider silk is recommended, as it is the easiest to obtain (see task X3 below). This gear is also helpful for the next task. It can be killed without gear/food but there is a chance of dying without healing abilities. This can be a threat, even with maxed combat, due to the implicit low level gear restriction, if multiple guards gang up on you at once.
Therefore, it is recommended to use safespots, like standing behind a fence to attack them without being attacked. One should also be cautious if meleeing since there is a chance to be attacked by multiple guards.
For food, cook some undead beef or, if you haven't yet used them, you may loot some chests and obtain some stackable stew which heals up to 625. Alternatively, if you trade Gertrude in New Varrock, she sells 10 chocolate cake for 140 zemomarks each and heal 1250 life points. You can also purchase more stew from her. Cakes and stew are both stackable, which helps conserve inventory space.
"Steel, Stud or Silk Salute" - Perform the Salute emote while wearing a full set of level 20 armour in New Varrock.
Level 20 armour, and 20 Defence to wear it.
You need 7 spider silk, 9 steel bars, or a leather body and leather chaps (which you can buy), one leather (to make coif) from tanner and 2 steel studs.
It is recommended that one buys the Sani and Zaff upgrade from Gypsy Ari's reward shop (requires completion of Dimension of Disaster), as it will give you 7 spider silk which is enough to make the helm, body, and legs. Silk is recommended as it requires less inventory spaces and is easiest to make.
Otherwise, you may buy 7 silk from Zaff and some thread and craft a spider silk hood, spider silk robe top and spider silk robe bottom. Wear it then do the salute emote.
You can also obtain silk and steel studs as drops from New Varrock guards, or trade another player for it.
"The Moo-er of All Bombs" - When fighting Zemouregal in Curse of Arrav subquest, damage him at least five times with exploding cows.
Requires partial completion of Curse of Arrav subquest in Dimension of Disaster, as well as the Shield of Arrav, Demon Slayer, and Defender of Varrock subquests.
"Top Pick" - Use a lockpick to access Zemouregal's lost property chest (in his study north-west of the castle).
This is a map of all the thieving chests available in New Varrock for use when completing the related tasks, divided into upstairs and downstairs chests. You can interact with this map using the check boxes in the top left corner.
The rewards from the New Varrock tasks consist of boosts to zemomarks for subsequent replays and buffs to Varrock armour.
Each task completed in all four tiers (easy, med, hard, elite) offers an increase in amount of zemomarks to the total amount of zemomarks received in the Curse of Arrav subquest - so if you did not complete any of the tasks, you will get 100 zemomarks on completion. A table of the bonus to zemomarks received follows:
no tasks completed: 100 zemomarks
Easy tasks done: up to an additional 50 zemomarks
Med tasks done: up to an additional 100 zemomarks
Hard tasks done: up to an additional 150 zemomarks
Elite tasks done: up to an additional 200 zemomarks
The total amount of zemomarks for completing the Curse of Arrav subquest is 550 upon finishing all of the tasks. There are two zemomark rewards: the one-off for task completion (note tasks are not reset), and then the bonus to the zemomarks gained by completing the Curse of Arrav subquest on subsequent playthroughs of the quest.
