TokHaar Fight Cauldron![]() This minigame has been rated as Low Risk. See the minigames page for a definition of high and low risk. IntroductionThe TokHaar Fight Cauldron is a training area in the south-east of the TzHaar area that can be accessed after the Brink of Extinction quest. The player can fight against never-ending waves of TokHaar, all of which drop obsidian shards that can be used to smith Obsidian armour. Dying in the area will simply spawn the player at the entrance - no items are lost on death but only half of the shards obtained are kept. You can teleport directly to the entrance of the Fight Cauldron using the tokkul-zo. A TzHaar banker can also be found just inside the Fight Cauldron for convenient banking. MechanicsJust like in the quest, the lava that fills the cauldron is incredibly active. The northern panel is again covered by a continuous lava fountain, do not enter this tile. Panels that are cold, heating, active and cooling are seen below. As a panel starts to heat, you must make it your priority to move off it as soon as possible - an active panel will deal high unavoidable damage and can quickly kill the unprepared.
Tokkul can be sacrificed at the coffer just inside the Fight Cauldron entrance. A sacrifice of 15,000 tokkul will cause your obsidian armour to soak 10% more damage from TzHaar and TokHaar creatures and lowers its degrade chance to 20% for a duration of 20 minutes. However, the time taken to obtain tokkul may outweigh this benefit. The Fight Cauldron can be left at any time by passing the hot vent door or by death - the lava fountain is useful for this as it kills the player quickly. Return to TopMonstersMonsters in the Fight Cauldron are similar to those found during the quest and in the Fight Kiln. All monsters in the Fight Cauldron award between double and triple normal combat experience. Every monster killed adds obsidian shards to your total, these are claimed when the player leaves the fight cauldron. However, if the player dies they will only receive half of the accumulated total. The TokHaar fought in the cauldron also drop TzHaar weapons, gems, ores and other supplies, including a rare chance at an uncut onyx gem. Occasionally, TokHaar-Hok will re-appear and challenge the player to a one-on-one rematch. He has all the same abilities as in the quest, but he is more powerful. If defeated, he drops 16 obsidian shards and an experience lamp worth 20k experience in a choice of one of the following skills: attack, strength, defence, ranged, magic, constitution, summoning, herblore, slayer and prayer. TokHaar-Hok will only appear once every 30 minutes.
Note: If you leave the fight cauldron at any time, the set of monsters you were fighting will be saved and you have to face them again when you re-enter. Return to TopSetting upSetups for the Fight Cauldron are relatively simple, boosting potions such as overloads, extreme potions or super potions should be used in conjunction with your highest level boosting prayers to increase kill-speed. An inventory space should be left free for obsidian shards and runes should be brought for water spells. A shield of any class can be used to mitigate damage if required, however soul split and standard food should be sufficient. It only takes a few seconds to restock, so shorter trips are preferred and it is better to die and re-supply than continue with no boosting potions or prayers. Your highest tier weapon for each class should be brought and used, pictured are the royal crossbow with royal bolts, chaotic staff and chaotic maul. An armour set of each class should also be brought. Bandos, Armadyl and Subjugation armours are pictured and are ideal as they provide decent defensive bonuses but do not degrade. The final slots can be filled with items that benefit all styles, pictured here are the amulet of fury, culinaromancers gloves 10, tokkul-zo and any skillcape. ![]() The tokkul-zo can be used to gain a 10% damage increase against TokHaar monsters. If making a full set of obsidian armour the helms should be prioritised first as they can be used within the cauldron for their accuracy bonuses. Return to TopWaves and TacticsAlthough the waves of monsters in the Fight Cauldron occur randomly, it is possible to predict the monsters in each wave based on the pattern of the spawn points. The following table shows the spawns of monsters and a short discussion of special tactics to be used on more complex waves.
Return to TopObsidian ArmourObsidian armour can be made once the player has obtained enough obsidian shards. 12 shards can be used at any furnace to make one bar, which can then be used at any anvil with the required smithing level to create obsidian armour. These armour pieces have a 50% chance to degrade slightly with each attack, soak some damage and provide an accuracy bonus when fighting TzHaar or TokHaar. However, when worn in any area of RuneScape other than the TzHaar area the armour only acts as level 60 hybrid gear. See the item entries for additional information.
*Offers a 10% accuracy bonus in its respective class against TzHaar and TokHaar, and acts as a slayer helm if the player has been assigned a task of TzHaar NPCs. Return to TopCreditsOriginal Guide by: Naive & Octarine Thanks to: Baffler Last updated by: Octarine Last updated on: 14-May-2013
