Holiday and Rare Items Guide
Introduction
Tradeable items are rare and considered valuable when there is a finite supply of the item. Consequently this will
drive prices up. Such tradeable items were either dropped only once (Holiday Rares) or discontinued (Non-Holiday
Rares). In both cases the supply is limited and there is a continuing sales market in the game. Non-tradeable Holiday
Items cannot be sold, so their value is only to show off how long you have been playing. They are intended to be fun
items only.
If items do not appear in this guide, they are not considered rare, as their quantities are not limited.
Treasure Trail Items, Minigame rewards, etc. have an infinite supply.
Rare Holiday Items
Years: 2001, 2002
Holiday items were dropped on certain holidays throughout the year and could be found in random places all over the
RuneScape world. Since these items were only dropped on that holiday, the tradeable ones became rare and are now very
valuable and expensive.
In 2001, these items were a total surprise. People had to wander around the world trying to get them. Party Hats
have now grown to be 'the' symbol of wealth in the game. No one ever imagined these items would become as valuable as
they are today.

These were dropped on Christmas 2001 and have inside them a random coloured Party hat and another
random item from the game (except quest items). To get the content out you had to use it on another player. One player
got the Party hat, the other player got the item. A lot of people opened them for the impressive party hats inside.

Untradeable Holiday Items
Years: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012
In 2003, new holiday drop items were created to be untradeable. This was because Jagex did not like to see players
hoarding old drops and selling them for huge profits. Jagex said that all future holiday drops would not be tradeable,
because these items were not meant to be worth millions of gp - they were meant to be for fun. Many people were upset
because they could not trade the newest 2003 drop items to friends who weren't online for that particular holiday. The
situation became so bad that there was no Christmas drop.

Retrieval: Diango - Draynor Village |
These were dropped on Easter 2003. They were the first non-tradeable holiday drop. Players couldn't
get another pair. A message said "You don't need another pair of bunny ears, you only have 1 head." Originally, if
players dropped them or died with them, they would reappear in inventory. Now, players have to go to Thessalia's
clothing shop in Varrock to get them back. |

Retrieval: Diango - Draynor Village |
These were dropped on Halloween 2003. Scythes were also non-tradeable. Players couldn't get another
one if they tried - a message said, "You already have a scythe you don't need another one". If dropped or lost, players
can talk to Thessalia in Varrock. When equipped it adds 10 to weapon strength and 10 to attack. |
After missing over 12 months of holiday items, Jagex brought them back. During December 2004, Jagex introduced a new
system whereby an NPC related to the holiday would give you the item if you talked with him. This NPC would be
available for a certain time period around the holiday so that many players could join in the holiday spirit.

For two weeks, Santa appeared in Varrock, Falador, Ardougne, Catherby and Yanille. Players who
spoke to Santa got a Yo-yo, which can be right-clicked to do yo-yo tricks. The Yo-yo is not tradeable. |
In 2005 Jagex carried on their holiday NPC approach but with a twist. You had to complete a task for the reward.

The Easter Bunny appeared in the weeks around Easter 2005. The Bunny gave players baskets to hand
out Easter eggs. (These eggs "melted" when the Easter Bunny left RuneScape.) After giving out the eggs, the player's
reward was a Rubber chicken. When wielded it can whack people. Players can dance like a chicken by choosing the "dance"
option (or "operate" when wielding it).
It is considered a fun weapon for Fun Duels at the members Duel Arena (Attack: Stab and Slash -100, Crush -50; Strength
-10). The Rubber chicken is not tradeable. |

The zombie head was released for Halloween 2005. Players got it by finding zombies in Lumbridge
Swamp that had an "insult" option. When insulted, the zombie dropped its' head! The Zombie head would then fly away and
the player had to catch it.
For Halloween 2005 there were also kids "trick or treating" in Lumbridge, but they (and their sweets) disappeared after
the holiday event ended. The Zombie Head is not tradeable. A lost Zombie head can be retrieved by digging in Lumbridge
Swamp. A replacement is only available to a player who originally got one during this event. |

Retrieval: Diango - Draynor Village |
Scarves and Hats were task rewards for Christmas 2005. Players got scarves by painting ornaments
(which
disappeared at the end of the holiday period.) The more ornaments painted, the greater variety of scarves obtained
(there were four different-coloured sets in all).
Players got hats by assembling marionettes (which disappeared at the end of the holiday, unlike the reward below).
Again, the more marionettes made, the greater variety of hats obtained (different styles, but matching the scarves).
Scarves and hats are not tradeable. |

Marionettes were also a task reward for Christmas 2005. They were obtained by painting ornaments
and decorating the Christmas tree in Varrock square (the tree-lighting included a nice cutscene). Marionettes can be
red, green, or blue, and are not tradeable.
If a player loses it or just wants to change colours, it can be replaced by using the "Destroy" option and getting
another from the crate in the northwest house in Draynor Village. |
In 2006 Jagex continued the holiday NPC task-reward scheme.
 |
Examine: A ring given to you by the Easter Bunny. |
|
Retrieval: Diango - Draynor Village |
Jagex released another holiday event for Easter 2006. Players turned into bunnies and fell into a
rabbit hole. The Easter Bunny, asked players to hand out eggs to the children. (These eggs "melted" when the Easter
Bunny left RuneScape.) After giving out the eggs, the Easter Bunny gave players an Easter ring.
When worn, the ring turns the player into a blue inert egg. As an egg, no menus are on the right - only an
"Unmorph" button. Moving or clicking "Unmorph" turns the player human again. The ring will *not* protect players from
combat, but prevents trading and dueling. Easter rings are not tradeable. |

Skeleton clothing was the reward for helping Diango in the Hallowe'en 2006 event. The clothing was
obtained by using the Ghost Buster 500 to dismiss ghosts from possessed toys throughout Diango's workshop.
Afterdismissing three of a colour of Ghost (called geist during the actual event), players could go to Diango to get
one piece of the clothing. Skeleton clothing is not tradeable, and can be destroyed by using the "Destroy" option.

The Jack Lantern mask was also a reward from the Hallowe'en 2006 event. Players received Jack
lantern masks in return for cutting ten roots from the evil tree in the centre of Diango's workshop. The Jack lantern
mask is not tradeable, and can be destroyed by using the "Destroy" option. |

Examine: A reindeer hat and a matching flashing nose. |
|
Retrieval: Diango - Draynor Village |
The Reindeer hat and matching flashing nose was a reward from the Christmas 2006 event. Selecting
the operate action while wearing it causes you to prance around with stars glittering over your head, and for you to
generally "behave like a reindeer". To receive the hat, players had to talk to Shanty Claws at Musa Point on the island
of Karamja. He asked them to rescue the children kidnapped by the Gublinchs.
Players had to pelt Gublinchs with snowballs, then collect the Gublinch shards and put them in the cages near Shanty
Claws. The Reindeer hat is not tradable, and can be destroyed by using the "Destroy" option.

For the first time, during the Christmas 2006 event, Jagex offered an extra reward reward just for
members - a wintumber tree. This was only offered if the player spoke to Shanty Claws on a members' server before the
event was over.
The wintumber tree can be planted outside a player owned house, either in the garden or the unutilised land surrounding
it. The tree can not be planted in a garden hot spot, even if no other plant is there. The wintumber tree is not
tradable, and can be destroyed by using the "Destroy" option. |

Chicken Clothing was the reward for once again helping the Easter Bunny in 2007's Easter event.
This involved doing errands for the Easter Bunny: catching chocolate kebbits, making enchanted chocolate dust, picking
up eggs and bowling them to crushed kebbits into chocolate chunks. For these activities, the Easter Bunny gave out a
reward of chicken legs and chicken
boots.
The final errand required players to eat a magic egg and become a bunny rabbit (also unlocking the Hop emote).
Squeezing into a hole to a field of burrows, players found a rabbit mould. For this, the Easter Bunny gave the final
reward - the chicken wings and chicken head. When all four pieces of the chicken clothing are worn, the Flap emote is
enhanced, lifting you off the ground briefly. Chicken clothing is not tradeable, and can be destroyed by using the
"Destroy" option. |

The Grim Reaper Hood was the reward for helping the Grim Reaper during the 2007 Halloween event.
The Grim Reaper needed his house tidied up. The errands included retrieving the skull of the Grim Reaper's former
servant from the garden, tidying the house, and testing a training arena. After completing the tasks and speaking with
the Grim Reaper, players received the zombie hand emote and the Grim Reaper's own hood. The hood is not tradeable, and

When activated, the Snow Globe opens to reveal a small-sized Lumbridge. Upon closing, the Snow Globe fills your
inventory with snowballs, which may be thrown at other players. The Snow Globe is non-tradeable, and can be destroyed
by using the "Destroy" option. |

Retrieval: Diango - Draynor Village |
The Chocatrice Cape was a reward for the Easter 2008 event.
Players were required to retrieve three eggs hidden around Falador, Draynor, and Rimmington. Inside the rabbit hole,
players solves a simple puzzle and activated a machine to coat the eggs in chocolate.
When the Chocatrice Cape is activated, players are engulfed in a huge egg, and then break the egg around them. It can
also be worn, is non-tradeable, and can be destroyed by using the "Destroy" option.

Retrieval: Diango - Draynor Village |
Warlock Clothing was the reward for helping Maggie the Witch obtain some trick or treat Halloween
candy in 2008.
She couldn't gather it herself, as her skeletal oxen Babe was feeling ill. Players could don costumes, and go trick or
treating from nearby residents of Rimmington, Port Sarim, and Draynor village. Gazing into Maggie's cauldron unlocked
the Trick emote, which helped with this task.
After bringing back the requested number and type of candies, Maggie rewarded the player with one piece of clothing,
until the player had all three pieces. These candies all healed 30 life points, but they vanished after the season was
over!
The reward was witch's clothing for female characters, and warlock's clothing for males. |

Retrieval: Diango - Draynor Village or Killing Various Birds |
For the American Thanksgiving in 2008, Jagex hosted the first Thanksgiving event ever. There were
two ways to get a cornucopia and unlock the new emote.
Killing turkeys or spotting 10 disguised turkeys earned the cornucopia and unlocked the "Give Thanks" emote, which
briefly transforms the player into a turkey.
The cornucopia holds up to 140 life points worth of food, and clicking it heals that amount. The cornucopia can be
obtained after the event from killing various birds in RuneScape, as well as from Diango. |

A Santa suit was the reward for finding young Jack Frost and returning him to his loving family.
The head snow imp gave out an icy amulet and a new emote, Freeze. The icy amulet summoned a snow imp, who could tell
that Jack was near if it got colder. Players visited patches of snow around the free to play world until they found
him, then went into another dimension to dislodge Jack. In order to meet his parents, a jolly old gent had to be
unfrozen. The Santa suit reward for this mission was different for female and male players, but the gloves, boots and
amulet were the same. |

Egg Plant. The Easter Bunny's son was in no mood to help but slowly was more and more impressed as he saw the machines
being put to work again. After completing the event, the Easter Bunny rewarded you with the Easter Carrot and the
"Around the World in Eggty Days" emote. The Easter Carrot is considered a fun weapon and adds the right click option to

The Candy Cane was given as a gift from Santa in thanks for freeing him from Ebenezer Scourge, who

which took them to a Christmas feast in the Land of Snow. Upon arrival, the partygoers told the player that an evil
wizard, Ebenezer Scourge, had kidnapped Santa. The player had to greatly frighten the Scourge to release Santa. In turn
he promised to abandon his evil ways. Upon return to the feast, Santa gave the player a gift under the tree, a Candy
Cane. |

|
Retrieval: Diango - Draynor Village |
The Easter 2010 event was considered a sequel of sorts to the Easter 2009 event. In this year's
event, you had to help the Easter Bunny's son in running the factory by fixing up the place from disarray. The player
also had to run the factory for a short while, producing resources, hiring workers and producing goods. Finally, the
player had to deliver the produced orders to various clients over RuneScape, learning a little about how the various
races celebrate Easter.
The Squirrel Ears came in two forms. The first was the standard form and was worn in the head equipment slot. If
you right-click the Squirrel Ears in the Equipment Tab, there is an option to perform the "Juggle" emote, in which you
juggle a squirrel, much like Eek from the Halloween 2009 event.
During the event, players who performed outstandingly while running the factory for the Easter Bunny received an
enhanced reward. While cosmetically, the Squirrel Ears look the same, right-clicking them in the Equipment Tab reveals
the "Summon Minions" option in addition to the "Juggle" emote. By clicking "Summon Minions", you will be accompanied by
two of your very own squirrels as pets. You are able to interact with them like any other pet and they do not need to
be fed. They are currently the only permanent follower open to non-members. The Squirrels will both vanish when you
dismiss them (by right-clicking) or when you unequip your Squirrel Ears. You may only summon the two squirrels once
every 30 minutes. |

During October 2010, players had the opportunity to help Pumpkin Pete plan a Halloween party to
cheer up the Grim Reaper after an unusually dismal series of Halloweens for the Grim Reaper, even by his standards. In
addition, players who had obtained Eek the Spider from the previous Halloween event had the opportunity to take her
along while helping Pumpkin Pete.
Oftentimes during the event, Eek would comment on what was happening. For the player's efforts, a bone brooch was
awarded. Worn in the necklace slot, the brooch is able to turn the player into a pile of bones, appearing similar to
normal bones, except including a skull. This reward is similar to the Easter Ring in its ability to transform players
into an object. |

|
Retrieval: Diango - Draynor Village |
The Easter 2011 broke the mould of the previous Easter events in that it did not focus on Easter,
but rather the seasonal equinox and the transition from Winter to Spring. During the event, players would participate
in a friendly rivalry between the Queen of Sunrise and the Queen of Snow by cutting down Evil Holly and Hawthorn trees,
and help the Queen of Sunrise locate the stolen Year from a surprising thief, allowing her to bring forth Springtime
and end Winter. The Icicle Crown resembles the crown that the Queen of Snow wears, and was awarded by the Queen of Snow
for killing an Evil Hawthorn Tree.
While worn, the Icicle Crown also has the "Contact" and "Check-charges" option. The Contact option lets you
contact the Queen of Snow remotely, giving you information about Evil Trees in
RuneScape. The Crown holds up to 30 charges and is only recharged by killing a Holly Tree in the Easter event area.

Players had to
use this handcannon to break open Easter Eggs which where hidden around Runescape, and then fire it at the chick that
came out.
If shot with the scotch-egg option, the chick became an Evil drumstick, while being shot with the marshmallow option
would turn
the chick into a Chocotreat. Players could only keep this after the event by completing three full rounds of the Easter

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- What's the point of untradeable holiday items if I can't sell them?
For fun, and nothing more. They also show how long you have been playing.
- Could you ever dye party hats?
No.
- Is Unfermented Wine still around?
Unfermented wine shortly and automatically becomes either wine or (sometimes) bad wine, whether it is carried in
inventory or
stored in the bank. The only way to halt this process is to turn it into a bank note, but that doesn't make it
valuable.
- When are Hallowe'en, Easter and Christmas?
Hallowe'en is on the 31st of October each year. Easter varies, but it is always in either March or April. Christmas is
on the
25th of December every year.
- Are spinach rolls rare?
Spinach rolls are no longer tradeable. They are, however, a common drop from Moss Giants and can be obtained from the
Crystal
Chest. Spinach rolls are also given out by the Mysterious Old Man, sold in shops across RuneScape and are a reward from
the Demon
Slayer quest. They heal 20 LP.
- Which black items are rare?
None of them. Scimitars, hatchets, meds and all other black items can be easily obtained.
- What are some other unusual but cheap items that scammers claim are rare?
All item values are now shown in the trade screen, so there is just no reason to get scammed by overpaying for a cheap
item.
Good advice: if you don't know for sure exactly what it is, where it comes from, and the current market value, just
don't buy it.
