Isafdar and Arandar

By Mindesto

Tirannwn, the realm of Elves, is sheltered behind the Arandar mountains west of Ardougne. There are currently four ways to access the area; all of which become available through increasingly more difficult quests. The first is the long and deadly Underground Pass quest. The second, actually involving this area, is the Regicide quest which rewards you with an entrance through a secret gate in north-east Arandar. The third is the Mournings' End part 1 quest which grants you a teleportation seed with up to three charges that are easily and cheaply recharged by Eluned. (It is also worth mentioning that you need to complete the Plague City and Biohazard quests as prerequisites to gain access.) The fourth way to reach this realm is via Charter ship to Port Tyras - however, you must have completed the Regicide quest. Obviously, it's a long and hard road to reap the benefits of Tirannwn.

Getting around in Tirannwn is no easy task either. The Isafdar forest is riddled with calamitous agility obstacles. In fact you need a minimum Agility level of 56 to even tread its arduous paths. Various traps and obstacles include spike pits camouflaged with leaves, trip wires that set off poisoned darts, sharpened stick spring traps and dense forest which require great feats of contortion to navigate through. It is essential to bring food, anti-poison and a means of escape via teleport anytime you traverse this area.

There are several areas of interest throughout the forest mires. The elusively sought halberds are acquired in Tyras Camp from the Quartermaster. After the completion of Regicide, the Dragon Halberd becomes available. The south-east corner of Lletya has become a prime location to harvest flax, with a bank just a few paces away. High level thieves can enjoy thieving from the elves in Lletya as well. Four Adamantite ores are found west of Lletya hidden in the trees. Be wary of traps along the way. Additionally, there is a grove of Magic Trees a short walk from Lletya where Eluned and Islywns appear from time to time. Ilfeen, found in the depths of Isafdar, recharges crystal seeds for both Crystal Bows and Crystal Shields after you have completed the Roving Elves quest. Elf Warriors in the Elf Camp are popular foes and are also assigned as Slayer tasks. Furthermore, shark fishing is also available a short walk north-west of the Elf Camp. Herblorists will note that many Red spiders' eggs spawn in Arandar, and White berries spawn in Isafdar.

In summary, a large, complex, dangerous, fruitful and ever-growing area.

Hints and Tips:

  • Bringing a hatchet and tinderbox to cook rabbit and bear meat would be wise, especially if your agility level is low.
  • When jumping leaf traps, be sure to click on the edge closest to your character to start your jump.
  • Using the mini-map to travel around can be deadly. You're better off clicking on the screen where you can see what lies ahead.
  • Both Roving Elves and Mournings End part 1 quests can be started at any one of the three locations you find Eluned and Islwyn.

Agility Obstacles and Shortcuts:

  • Level 45, log balance.
  • Level 59, easy cliffside scramble.
  • Level 68, medium cliffside scramble.
  • Level 85, advanced cliffside scramble.
